Top New Zealand sports star appears in court on drug-supply charge

A high-level New Zealand sportsman has been arrested and charged with possession of a Class A drug for supply.

The former international appeared at Manukau District Court on Friday morning, after being held in custody overnight, along with several other people in relation to the case.

NZME reports the man was granted interim name suppression by Judge John Macdonald on the request of defence lawyer Adam Couchman.

The sporting star was granted bail and remanded without plea to appear again later this year.

Acting Dectective Inspector Shaun Vickers told Newshub further arrests were possible.

"A man was remanded in police custody to appear in the Manukau District Court today on a charge of possession of methamphetamine for supply," a statement said.

A search warrant was issued and executed in Auckland on Thursday, resulting in the man's arrest.

A second man faces the same charges and is due to appear in court next Wednesday.
