Piers Morgan was expertly silenced by a guest during an interview about London's knife crime epidemic.

The controversial TV host questioned rapper Akala – whose full name is Kingslee James McLean Daley – on the surge in knife crime in the capital, quizzing him as to whether he thinks it is a race issue.

Their debate came after GMB weatherman Alex Beresford's cosuin, Nathan Armstrong, tragically died just days after his passionate on-air speech about the issue.

Piers asked: "Let me put this to you, what i would say to you is this... statistically it looks like in London this is predominantly a problem of black teenage boys almost exclusively in gangs attacking each other.

"The victims and perpetrators appear to be almost exclusively young black men. Do you think there is a racial element to that?"

However, Akala was quick to shut down Piers' argument, as he replied: "There are several regions of the country – let's just look at the facts – that have higher murder rates than London does. Clearly throughout human history, black people have not had anything sort of resembling a monopoly on violence.

"Over the years some of the most horrendous knife attacks some of the victims and the perpetrators have been white and they’ve not been from London."

He went on to give the example of the 13-year-old girl who was tragically stabbed to death in Southampton and a five-year-old stabbed to death in Oxfordshire.

"When both the perpetrator and the victim are white, race suddenly becomes unimportant," he added.

Piers eventually conceded Akala had a 'valid point' (

To highlight his point, Akala went on to compare Piers to a paedophile, as he likened his reference to Piers' earlier suggestion that knife crime was an issue for black people.

"You will never be called upon to explain that not all white middle aged men are paedophiles, despite the fact that hundreds maybe thousands of them are convicted of sex offences every year," he explained. "'Cos it’s self evident that not all middle aged white men are paedophiles."

When faced with this comparison, Piers accepted Akala had made a "valid point".

Further backing Akala, footballer Jon Barnes was later also quizzed on the issue by Piers, and shut the former journalist down as he chimed in: "It is black kids killing black kids but it was never the narrative when it was white kids killing white kids."
