Premier League net spend: How much did each club invest during the summer transfer window?

Arsene Wenger's dithering has actually seen Arsenal finish the summer window having made a healthy profit for player trading, but what about other clubs?

Transfer window bargains

Tottenham and Swansea were the big winners on transfer deadline day while Chelsea and Arsenal were left to ponder the ones that got away.

Spurs, so often the masters of the late deals, brought in striker Fernando Llorente from the Swans as the clocked ticked 11pm, having earlier landed £23million defender Serge Aurier from Paris Saint-Germain.

Swansea wasted little time recruiting Llorente's replacement, unveiling their former favourite Wilfried Bony from Manchester City. But possibly the deal of the day came when the Swans announced the signing of exciting Bayern Munich midfielder Renato Sanches on loan.

Swansea boss Paul Clement spent time as Carlo Ancelotti's assistant at Bayern last season and used his contacts to pull off the shock move for the 20-year-old, who was named the best young player at Euro 2016.

As for champions Chelsea, they were left stunned when Ross Barkley turned his back on a £35million switch in a dramatic late twist. The Everton midfielder had travelled to London and undergone a medical when, with less than an hour of the window remaining, he apparently had a change of heart and opted to stay at Goodison Park.

As well as Barkley and Llorente, the Blues also missed out on Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who opted to move from Arsenal to Liverpool in one of the biggest transfers of the day worth £35m.

They did, however, eventually manage to bring in midfielder Danny Drinkwater on a five-year contract from Leicester - also for a reported £35m - while defender Davide Zappacosta agreed a four-year deal from Torino.

Arsenal, meanwhile, failed to sign Monaco's Thomas Lemar, despite offering a reported £92m, and are now left with unsettled Chile forward Alexis Sanchez entering the final year of his contract as his switch to Manchester City subsequently failed to materialise.
