Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United and Tottenham have all spent big sums in recent years

Transfer update:  Martial future uncertain, Modric on the move, Bailey in demand, Another new face at Fulham

Rewind two years.

Jurgen Klopp infamously claimed that Liverpool would never be a big-spending club while he is manager.

After Manchester United signed Paul Pogba, he claimed: "Other clubs can go out and spend money and collect top players. I want to do it differently. I would even do it differently if I could spend that money."

But just two years later, Liverpool have become one of the league's highest spenders.

Recruiting Alisson, Fabinho and Naby Keita hasn't come cheap for the Anfield club, with those three players alone costing more than £150million.

"I'm not concerned about what one of us says one day - the circumstances change," Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola said about Klopp's change of approach.

"When Liverpool believe it, it's because they believe it's for the best for them. I don't like it when colleagues speak about me. If they believe it's the best for them, it's perfect for them."

But how significant has Liverpool's spending really been in comparison to their top six rivals.
