New Liverpool signing Harvey Elliott says that he is "truly sorry" for an offensive video featuring him that has circulated on social media.

Elliott, 16, has been playing with the Liverpool first-team squad in recent weeks and made an apology on Instagram after playing for the Reds in their win over Lyon on Wednesday.

In the video, originally filmed on Snapchat, Elliott appears to perform an offensive impersonation of Harry Kane while watching the Champions League Final earlier this summer.

The video received numerous critics on social media - and Elliott has offered a "wholehearted" apology.

Elliott wrote: "I would just like to wholeheartedly apologise for any offence caused on the back of a video of me currently circulating on the internet.

"The video was taken whilst messing around with friends in a private environment and was not directed at any individual but I realise that my actions were both immature and senseless.

"I would like to stress that the contents of the video do not represent who I am as a person or how I've been brought up, and I am truly sorry."

Elliott was one of Liverpool's most impressive performers in the win over Lyon on Wednesday night.

The youngster showed plenty of promise, taking opponents on and even had an ambitious shot on goal from 20 yards.

Elliott could feature in Liverpool's squad for the Community Shield vs Manchester City this weekend.
