Controversial Billericay Town owner Glenn Tamplin has sensationally put the club up for sale amid accusations of snorting cocaine in the toilets.

Tamplin, who has reportedly invested more than £2.5million into the National League South outfit, says he has 'been pushed too far' and is stepping down.

The millionaire businessman states he was made aware of the claims following Billericay's defeat at Woking on Saturday.

He says the police initially approached him at the stadium before pulling him over and repeating the accusation in front of his children.

In a video posted on Billericay's Twitter feed, a police officer is heard telling Tamplin he is satisfied he has not taken drugs and is okay to drive.

Tamplin says in the video his daughter is in tears because she is so scared.

He told The Echo: "The club is up for sale as of tomorrow as I can’t take anymore. After the Woking game I was told by their chairman that the police wanted to speak with me.

"They told me they had received a report that I had been snorting drugs in the public toilets. I asked to be tested and they said they didn’t have the test kits with them, I was then told I might be pulled over.

“I was pulled over 15 minutes later and to be asked if you have been taking drugs in front of your five-year-old daughter and eight-year-old son is not something I am willing to put my children through. Not for football.”

Tamplin says he would be happy to accept an offer of £500,000 for his stake, if the club was left 'in the right hands'.

In a club statement, he said: "My last actions will be to find suitable investors that will be able to run the Billericay Town and also to try my hardest to reinstate Harry Wheeler as manager of this great club.

"Thank you to all the fans that have stuck by me through thick and thin I will look back at the treble winning season with fond memories of a momentous time in the clubs history.”

Tamplin purchased Billiercay in December 2016 and signed former Premier League players such as Paul Konchesky, Jamie O'Hara and Jermaine Pennant in the following months.

He took over as manager in the 2017-18 season and guided the club to the first round of the FA Cup.

Tamplin sacked himself in February 2018 following three straight defeats and a disagreement with his players after asking them to give up a week's wages after the poor run. However, he reinstated himself just two days later.
