England's win over Denmark on Wednesday night to send them into the European Championship final wasn't without controversy, as many took issue with referee Danny Makkelie awarding England a late stoppage time penalty.

Raheem Sterling was downed inside the penalty area after skipping past Joakim Maehle, only for the Danish defender to trip him in a two-man effort with Mathias Jensen.

Peter Schmeichel led the opposition to the decision, saying it was a "really bad mistake" made by Makkelie.

But Gary Lineker believes there's no need for debate, claiming that if anything, there were two offences worthy of a spot-kick.

In a Tweet, Lineker pointed out that both Jensen and Maehle had fouled Sterling.

He wrote: "Can’t see what all the fuss is about. Might just be 2 penalties."

One fan reacted furiously to Lineker's tweet, however, and claimed an England victory on Sunday should be null and void.

However, the Match of the Day host joked: "The reactions to this are beautiful. I love this bitterness."
