The parents of a four-month-old baby found dead at the bottom of a well have been arrested on suspicion of murder.

Tragic Dylan Groves, who had been severely beaten, was padlocked inside milk crates which were weighed down with rocks and an iron anchor.

The infant's body was discovered wrapped in plastic bags and blankets at the bottom of the 30ft well in Otway, Ohio, in June.

Now parents Daniel and Jessica Groves, aged 41 and 39 respectively, have been charged with his murder.

Horrific details about the case have emerged since Dylan's death, with a probe launched to determine if his death could have been prevented.

The baby had suffered fractures to his skull, left leg and left arm.

He was found with drugs in his system when he was born, and authorities took him into care.

Dylan was later returned to his father, on the condition that he appeared at court dates and doctor's appointments, but the family vanished on May 3.

Three weeks later the parents were found, leading to the discovery of Dylan's body.

He had methamphetamine and amphetamine in his system when he died, an autopsy found.

An investigation has been launched into the state handling of the case, WSAZ reports .

Andrea Bowling, the baby's foster mum before Daniel Groves regained custody, said the system had failed the infant horribly.

The couple are accused of aggravated murder, murder, kidnapping, endangering children, tampering with evidence, interference with custody, gross abuse of a corpse and felonious assault.

Both deny the charges against them.
