Jack Tweed protested his innocence last night in a tearful phone call from the jail where he is locked up accused of rape.
Jade Goody’s widower rang a pal from London’s Pentonville prison yesterday afternoon after he was remanded in custody.
Tweed, 22, admitted he had been with the 19-year-old girl at the centre of the claim – but said he had not raped her and he could not believe he had ended up behind bars.
A source said: “His friend asked him if he was OK. Jack said, ‘No, I’m f***ing not. I’m in Pentonville jail and I can’t believe that I am here. It’s all a nightmare.”
Tweed added to the friend: “I can’t believe a girl has made an allegation like that against me and I have ended up here. I am totally innocent and that will be shown in time.”
It is thought Tweed will claim he had consensual sex with the girl and will deny raping her at an after-club party at his house in the early hours of Friday.
He told the friend: “This is all so ridiculous…I have done nothing. I was with the girl, but no way did I rape her. When the police came to the house I could not believe it.
“I feel drained and really low. I haven’t slept since I was arrested.”
His pal said: “After the police turned up, Jack just walked into a room where some of his friends still were and just said, ‘I have been accused of rape’. He was gobsmacked.
“Everyone else at the house for the party could not believe it either.
“They thought he was joking when he told them. But soon he was in the police van and down the station. He is at his lowest ebb.”
Tweed’s phone call was made after his remand yesterday morning at Redbridge Magistrates Court in East London.
Wearing a hoodie top and jogging bottoms, Tweed kept his head bowed while his mother Mary, 45, brother Lewis, 19 and business partner Mark Wright, 25, stood just yards away in the public gallery, listening as the charges were read out.
Tweed is alleged to have raped the 19-year-old girl at his four-bedroom home in Repton Park, Chigwell, Essex, following a night out at London’s Embassy club on Thursday.
During yesterday’s five-minute court hearing, Tweed lifted his head only to confirm his name, address and date of birth. He was told he would be remanded in custody until September 21.
As he left the dock, Tweed’s mum Mary desperately tried to catch her son’s eye. But Jack averted his gaze and stared intently at the floor.
Mary had arrived at the courthouse at 10am. Looking tired and drawn, she paced the reception area clutching her stomach.
At one point, she asked Mark Wright, the best man at Jack and Jade’s wedding earlier this year why does Jack hangs around with the crowd he does.
Later she was heard on the phone to Tweed’s dad saying that the family had no choice but to get through the ordeal.
The alleged assault took place at Tweed’s home after a night at the Embassy, where Jack is a promoter.
Up to 15 police officers raided the property just after 7am on Friday, arresting Tweed and former boy band singer Ashley Rubin, 22.
Rubin was released yesterday morning. But late on Friday night a third man was arrested in connection with the alleged incident.
Anthony Davis, one of Tweed’s close friends, is said to have been at the house on the night.
Neighbours living close to Tweed have previously told how he regularly has large parties after nights out.
Often, up to 20 of his friends and girls are invited back. There have reportedly been more than 100 police complaints about the noise since he moved into the property.
And, two weeks ago, it led to his landlady serving Tweed with notice to move out due to all the problems.
Meanwhile, there was a fresh blow for Tweed yesterday after Jade’s grandfather said her family had turned their back on him due to his constant partying lifestyle.
John Caddock said Jade would be spinning in her grave and “heartbroken” at what Jack is doing.
He described Jack as an “idiot” for letting his life spiral out of control since Jade died of cancer in March.
John, 76, from Bermondsey, South-East London, added: “I’ve washed my hands of Jack.
“Although we have to wait to find out what’s happened, I just think he’s an idiot for even putting himself in this situation.
“I really dread to think how all of this would have made my Jade feel. It would have left her heartbroken.
“But the saddest thing in all this is that it would have never happened had Jade still been alive.”
