A drug dealer was speeding at up to 100mph and had cannabis in his system before he caused a horror crash which killed six people - including himself, an inquest heard.

The hearing heard it was likely that Kasir Jehangir, 25, was on a drugs run in his high-powered Audi S3 as police recovered £1,000 cash and two bags of marijuana in the vehicle after the accident.

Today an inquest into the deaths of three people who died in the accident, taxi driver Imtiaz Mohammed, 33, and his passengers Lucy Davis, 43, and her partner Lee Jenkins, 42, was held, reports BirminghamLive .

Mr Mohammed had a wife and six children and was found not to be at fault for the nine-vehicle horror crash in December last year.

Dad-of-six Imtiaz, from Small Heath, was on his last job of the night and had phoned his wife to say he would be coming home.

A crash scene investigator determined he had been driving at the speed limit of 40mph.

Kasar Jehangir, Mohammed Fasha and Tauqeer Hussain were travelling in the Audi S3 and were killed.

A fourth man, Zakkria Khan, 22, was seriously injured.

Because all four in the Audi were not wearing seatbelts they were thrown from the vehicle and it was initially unclear who had been behind the wheel.

Coroner Louise Hunt said: “The driver of the Audi lost control crossing the carriageway hitting the Audi travelling in the opposite direction. The Audi crossed it sideways and hit the taxi which in turn hit the Toyota Yaris.

Lee Jenkins, 42, was also killed

“All four of the occupants of the Audi were ejected and none were wearing seat belts. One passenger survived.

“When it left the carriageway it was travelling at excessive speed of between 94mph and 100mph in a 40mph zone.

“Given the speed of the Audi driver the taxi driver had no opportunity to react and I discount the drugs found in his system had any impact.

“I conclude with the evidence given that Kasir Jehangir was the driver of the Audi.

“Both Lee and Lucy were wearing seat belts but the taxi driver wasn’t.

"The cause of the accident was excessive speed and I accept evidence that the cannabis found in Mr Jehangir’s system would have contributed to the collision.

“The conclusion I record is road traffic collision.

“I am so sorry for your loss.

“I will remember Mr Jenkins as a talented nuclear physicist with a passion for travel. Lucy as a loving mother who had a passion for deaf signing.”

Sergeant Adam Green, road collision investigator, described how nine cars were involved in the collision, three in the initial smash and six cars crashing into each other afterwards.

He said Mr Mohammed was trapped inside the front of the taxi but had died.

Sergeant Alan Hands told the inquest police found a black bag in the Audi containing £280 cash and two bags of cannabis were also retrieved.

Around a £1,000 in cash was also discovered on the body of the driver Mr Jehangir.

He said: “It was likely that from the information to hand they were taking part in activities under the misuse of drugs act.”

Drug dealer Jehangir had previously led police on a terrifying 133mph police chase.

Dashcam footage from a police car shows officers chasing Jehangir as he and a passenger ditch bags of heroin on a motorway.

Officers drove through clouds of brown dust as the drugs were dumped out of the Audi's window before finally catching up with the pair.

Jehangir had only recently been released from prison following the 2015 incident when he was killed in the crash in Birmingham.

The inquest continues.
