MANDY and Alan Pell were amazed when they discovered they could slash £450 from their home insurance bill – and get exactly the same level of cover.
The couple were paying £73 a month for £250,000 buildings insurance and £50,000 contents insurance with Direct Line.
Mandy, a 41-year-old secretary, said: “While I was in my local branch of the Norwich and Peterborough Building Society they asked if I’d reviewed my home insurance recently.
“I knew the policy was coming up for renewal, so I got a quote. I couldn’t believe how much lower it was. Direct Line said they would match it, but we still switched as we felt they should have offered us a lower premium in the first place.”
The saving prompted the couple – who have three sons, Jake, 19, Sam, 17, and Brad, 11 – to review the rest of their finances.
Mandy, from Whittlesey, Cambs, said: “We’ve already been feeling the effects of higher energy prices and have noticed the cost of everyday essentials like food and fuel has risen sharply.
“We plan to look at everything that’s going out to see where else we can cut costs.”
