Pep Guardiola gives John Stones Man City injury update

Manchester City defender John Stones missed the 2-2 draw against Tottenham on Saturday with a small muscular injury.

John Stones missed Manchester City's game against Tottenham with a muscle injury.

Pep Guardiola thinks John Stones will be out for 10 days with a muscular problem that led to him missing the game against Tottenham on Saturday.

The Manchester City defender was ruled out of the 2-2 draw with Spurs at the Etihad with a rectus femoris strain with Nicolas Otamendi starting alongside Aymeric Laporte in the centre of defence.

City confirmed that Stones had suffered a thigh strain, adding that a "prognosis is likely next week" but Guardiola said in his post match press conference he thought the England international would be out for a week.

"I don’t know, one week, 10 days," Guardiola replied when asked how long Stones would be out for. "He had a little muscular problem."

Stones impressed in the opening day 5-0 win against West Ham helping his team to a clean sheet but has joined Benjamin Mendy and Leroy Sane on the injured list.

Sane was at the game on Saturday at the Etihad and watched his teammates warm up in shirts with his name on the back in support for the Germany international after a cruciate injury ruled him out for months.

The City attacker flew to Austria following the game to undergo surgery despite Pep Guardiola expecting the player to travel to Dr Cugat's clinic in Barcelona for surgery - where several Blues have gone after suffering similar injuries. Sane opted to have the procedure done at Innsbruck, Austria, after advice from the German national team.
