Man City get Aguero and Dias fitness boosts and other things spotted in training before Everton fixture

Manchester City saw two doubtful players take part in a light training session after the Tottenham win and before facing Everton.

City trained ahead of the game against Everton

Sergio Aguero stepped up his return to full fitness by taking part in Manchester City training after the win over Tottenham.

Aguero was a surprise inclusion on the bench against Spurs after Pep Guardiola had previously urged caution over easing him back too soon from his injury and isolation setbacks.

However, Guardiola named Aguero on the bench, saying the decision was made on Friday in order to reacclimatise Aguero with the matchday routine. He was absent from the pre-match warm-ups and didn't make it off the bench despite City leading comfortably in the closing stages, suggesting the plan was never to bring him on.

Another player on the bench against Spurs was Ruben Dias, who had a fever last week, but wasn't fit enough to start at the weekend. In another boost, he was also training on Sunday as the players who didn't feature took part in a light training session.

This is what we spotted in training as City prepare to face Everton on Wednesday:

Aguero takes another step forward

It seems the plan was always for Aguero to stay wrapped up on the bench against Spurs, rather than any new issue holding him back. He was in good spirits in footage of training put out by City, doing kick-ups and taking part in a light training game with the other players who didn't feature against Spurs.

He may not be in line to face Everton, or he may be given another watching brief at Goodison Park, but his presence in training is a sign he's on the right path and it's only a matter of time before he's back in a sky blue shirt for City.
