Dr Hilary Jones has clashed with pub landlord who hit the headlines on Monday after he threw Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer out of his pub.

Sir Keir Starmer was on a walkabout in Bath city centre as part of the local election campaign when he headed to the Raven pub.

But landlord Rod Humphris made it clear instantly he was not welcome.

Mr Humphris appeared on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain to speak to hosts Susanna Reid and Adil Ray.

He attempted to explain his reasons for being so angry at the Labour party - which he has supported his entire life.

But it soon became clear the hosts, and Dr Hilary, who was also on the ITV news programme, were not impressed by what he was saying.

"I think with the greatest respect Rod, I think you should stick to pulling pints rather than advising the government about policy on the biggest pandemic, public health issue for the last 100 years," Dr Hilary hit out.

"If we ignore a pandemic and we say lockdown doesn't work, how do you think this spreads in the first place? It's very simple, you have to have lockdown in a pandemic that kills people."

Referring to a comment Mr Humphris made about more elderly people dying, Dr Hilary continued: "And if you're saying at 83, it doesn't matter if you die, you're saying that people like Prince Philip, the last 16 years of his life were meaningless and worthless, we can't allow that to happen, you can't be that ageist."

Pub landlord Rod Humphries hit the headlines on Monday

But Dr Hilary sparked a backlash among viewers as he attempted to joke: "Dr Hilary joked about Rod's role as a landlord: "Someone who doesn't believe in the pandemic might not wash his glasses either!"

One viewer complained: "Just saw him on #GMB , obviously Dr Hilary didn't agree with him so tried to damage his business further by suggesting he didn't wash his glasses."

"Did Dr Hilary really just say they might not be watching the glasses in the pub there? WTAF???? #GMB," another stunned viewer said.

When Sir Keir arrived at Mr Humphris pub on Monday, he immediately held up a sheet of paper and started berating the Labour leader about the average age of people who had died in the coronavirus pandemic.

He later told the PA news agency: "I had heard that the Labour Party were coming round and he turned up and I told him what I thought of him, basically.

"I think he has utterly failed us as the Leader of the Opposition. He has completely failed to ask the questions that needed asking, like, why did we throw away our previous pandemic preparedness?

"Why have we just accepted lockdown? Why have we just accepted the loss of all our freedoms?"
