A GANGSTER jailed for 121/2 years for his part in a vicious kidnap, in which a man was shot and pistol-whipped, has had £350,000 worth of cash and assets confiscated.

Barry Graham 50, from Dukinfield, Tameside, was one of five gang members given jail sentences totalling 64 years after a six-week trial at Manchester Crown Court two years ago.

Victim Scott Lonsdale was attacked outside his home, shot in the back and brutally beaten before being bundled into the back of his own Range Rover.

He was saved by neighbours who saw the attack and alerted police, sparking a 20-minute chase across Greater Manchester.

It ended when the vehicle crashed and Mr Lonsdale was rescued.

The jury was told he had been targeted deliberately after two shootings at a pub run by Graham, of Cheetham Hill Road, and his nephew Ian Graham in Droylsden.

When Barry Graham was arrested, police discovered almost £10,000 worth of heroin at his home in Cheetham Hill Road, Dukinfield.

Officers from GMP's financial investigation unit (FIU) worked for weeks to establish how much he had netted from his criminal activities.

Graham was jailed in November 2005 after being convicted of conspiracy to commit grievous bodily harm and having Class A drugs with intent to supply. A Manchester Crown Court judge at a Proceeds of Crime hearing has now ordered £350,000 in cash and assets be confiscated.

Pc Caroline Skitt, of the FIU, said: "Graham is a career criminal.

"I hope this hearing sends out a clear warning to other people that we do not stop at a prison sentence."
