Sam Allardyce confirmed that Wayne Rooney is now off penalties at Everton in the wake of his latest miss from 12-yards against Brighton.
But the name of the man who should be stepping up from 12-yards is obvious - and it’s not Leighton Baines.
Baines is the most successful penalty taker in Everton’s history - with 25 successful spot kicks from 28 attempts (and from one of those misses he converted the rebound).
But since missing for the first time in a Premier League match at Old Trafford in 2014 he has appeared less enthusiastic about taking the responsibility from 12-yards.
He has still been enormously reliable when called upon, but has been happy to stand aside and allow Romelu Lukaku, Ross Barkley and even Kevin Mirallas to accept the responsibility since then.
At a supporters event last year Baines said: “I’m quite easy either way with taking them or not.
“When we signed Rom (Lukaku) and he first came in he wasn’t scoring much so I said to him ‘Do you want to take penalties?’ Because I felt it was more important for him to get up and running scoring goals.
“It’s nice that people think you’re great at them but I’ve never considered myself a specialist when it comes to penalties. So I just figured yeah, for him for his own confidence and for the football club it’s better for everyone.”

“But it’s the same now. If someone else wanted to take them I’d be fine with that.”
Cenk Tosun, however, clearly wants to take them.
And what’s more, he’s very, very good from 12 yards.
The Turkish international has taken 25 penalties in a career stretching back to November 2008, and has scored 24.
His only miss was almost six years ago, when Istanbul Buyuksehir goalkeeper Eduardo saved Tosun’s 88th minute. But Tosun had already scored earlier in the match to help his Gaziantepspor side win 2-1.
Since then Tosun has converted 12 out of 12 for Besiktas, including one in the Champions League against Monaco - and also scored two in international friendlies for Germany U21s before attaching his international allegiance to .
Prior to joining Besiktas he also took penalties for Gaziantepspor, scoring five.

Blues boss Sam Allardyce also namechecked Gylfi Sigurdsson as a potential successor on spot-kick duties - and his record is also outstanding.
There is a doubt over his fitness at present with the player having a scan on a knee problem picked up during Saturday’s victory over Brighton.
But from 24 penalties for club and country the ice-cool Icelandic international has converted 22.
He has taken seven in internationals, missing just one against Finland in October 2016.
And in club football he has a perfect Premier League record - six from six.
Penalty practice at Finch Farm must be interesting, because Sigurdsson’s last successful conversions in the Premier League were past Jordan Pickford (then of Sunderland) and Maarten Stekelenburg (of Everton).
He also converted six in Championship football, one in League One and two for Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
His last miss in club football came when Reading goalkeeper Mark Bunn saved his spot-kick .... on January 26, 2010!
And then, of course, there is Baines.
There is still one 12-yard record that the full-back hasn’t claimed.
Baines’ 25 successful spot kicks from 28 attempts means that no-one has scored more penalties for the Blues - in all competitions.
But in league matches alone Baines still needs one more successful conversion to match Trevor Steven’s 20 successful kicks from 22 attempts.
Baines has taken 21 penalties in league matches, scoring 19, with his other penalty kicks coming in the FA Cup - five from five, League Cup - one scored, one missed, and Europe - one from one.
The bottom line is, whoever succeeds Rooney as Everton’s penalty-taker, the Blues have plenty of reliable options.
