UEFA president makes major Liverpool Premier League title declaration as void calls continue

UEFA president Aleksandr Ceferin has given a significant response to questions over Liverpool's Premier League title bid

UEFA president makes major Liverpool title declaration

UEFA president Aleksandr Ceferin "can't see a way" where Liverpool are not crowned Premier League champions this season.

The Reds are a record 25 points clear at the summit and need only six more points from their remaining nine games to clinch the title for the first time since 1990.

Premier League clubs have committed to completing the season, which has been suspended since March 13 due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Discussions have been ongoing over how best to finish the outstanding 92 top-flight fixtures when it is safe to do so.

A number of Premier League clubs had previously expressed a desire to have the current campaign declared void while players such as Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane and Manchester City playmaker Kevin de Bruyne have admitted they would not be averse to the season being scrapped.

But UEFA president Ceferin is convinced Liverpool will win the title even if the remaining games do not take place, with the governing body clearly having no appetite for the season to be expunged.

"I can't see a way Liverpool could be left without a title," he said.

"If the Premier League resumes play, Liverpool will almost certainly win the title. Theoretically it's not all over, but practically Liverpool are on the verge of it.
