Southampton's Twitter account has issued Liverpool with a joke 'hands off' warning after former Reds striker Danny Ings netted a brace in the Saints' 3-1 win over Watford on Sunday.

The England international moved to St Mary's on a permanent basis in a £20m deal last summer following a successful campaign on loan with the club, and and has been in even better form this year.

One of the Premier League's in-form strikers before the enforced three-month break because of the coronavirus pandemic, Ings has scored three goals in three appearance since the top-flight's resumption to bring his total to 21 for the season.

And after Southampton's victory over Watford, the club's Twitter account responded to a Liverpool fan asking whether the Reds could re-sign the striker, saying: "You've had enough from us..."

Liverpool have signed Virgil van Dijk, Sadio Mane, Dejan Lovren, Adam Lallana, Nathaniel Clyne and Rickie Lambert from Southampton in the past six seasons, while Reds midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain also used to play for the Saints.
