These heartbreaking pictures show the devastation caused by vandals who broke into and trashed a special needs school in Everton.
Vandals broke into Millstead Primary school in Everton over the weekend and trashed the school, smashing windows, slashing playground surfaces and spraying graffiti.
Staff and students were stunned to find the damage as they arrived for school this morning.
Deputy head Lisa Jankowski, 36, said: "We're a school for children with severe learning difficulties.
"We've recently added an extension because the demand for special needs provision is increasing in Liverpool.
"We came in this morning and couldn't believe it.
"They've smashed windows in the new extension and the current building.
"We have a special surface on the playground for the children and that's been all slashed and we also have trampolines that have been completely ruined after being cut by a knife as well."
The school doesn't follow the usual curriculum and pupils go out into the community often, using four minibuses - but thugs have also destroyed three of these, smashing in their windows.
Lisa said: "We take the children horse riding once a week and we have a weekly trip somewhere the children will enjoy.
"But those won't be happening for quite some time now, because of the significant damage caused."
Because of the vandalism pupils are unable to play outside for the foreseeable future.
Lisa said: "We've been broken into a couple of times before, but nothing on this scale.
"We have no idea who would do something like this, whoever has done it sprayed 'we rrr Scouse' on the garages at the back of the school.
"We've reported it to the police and forensics are coming to investigate."
Merseyside Police confirmed they were investigating an allegation of criminal damage at Millstead School.
Police also say they vandals rooted through two of the storage sheds and stole numerous items.
Inspector Graeme Rooney said: “It shocks me that someone thinks it is morally okay to cause this sort of damage to a school which will now undoubtedly suffer from large costly repairs.
“We are currently analysing CCTV and will do all we can to find the culprits.”
