Unai Emery felt the youngster could have stayed at Arsenal this season

Eddie Nketiah has revealed he ignored Arsenal manager Unai Emery's advice to force through a move to Leeds United.

The Gunners' academy product joined the Whites on a season-long loan on the final day of the summer transfer window.

Despite still awaiting his full Championship debut for United, Nektiah has still chipped in with three goals from the bench and in the Carabao Cup this season.

United were forced to battle hard to secure the Arsenal youngster's signature this season, with the likes of Bristol City and Fortuna Dusseldorf vying to sign him too.

While Patrick Bamford has occupied the number nine spot so far this term, Nketiah's arrival has still had a huge impact on the Whites' squad.

However, Nketiah has revealed he went against Emery's advice to sign on the dotted line at Elland Road, as the Arsenal boss wanted to keep him at the Emirates Stadium.

Fresh from scoring a brace for England's under-21s, he told MailOnline:  "The manager wanted me to stay so it’s really confidence-boosting for me he had me in his plans.

"I felt like it was a good step for me to come to Leeds. I hope it’s a good year that can leave me in good stead going back to Arsenal to fight for a place.
