While the Indian government is easing all Covid-19 restrictions and life has got back to normal for us, this is not the case in China. The Chinese government has imposed strict lockdown rules amid rising Covid-19 cases in the country and it is absolutely brutal.

People are falling short of food and water supplies, with many said to be on the brink of starvation.

Amid this, a video from Shanghai is doing the rounds where desperate and exasperated people are screaming out of their windows and balconies as people run out of necessary goods.

After this, authorities allegedly deployed drones that broadcast the message: “Control the soul’s desire for freedom and do not open the window to sing. This behaviour has the risk of spreading the epidemic.”

This is not the only instance where people in China are pushing themselves out of desperate need. Riots are breaking out in the country. Videos showed a large group of people raising slogans and cornering officials wearing hazmat suits, before looting a supermarket.

Shanghai has been under complete lockdown since April 1. The eastern third of the city has been locked down even longer -- since March 28. The national government has sent in 2,000 military medics and 10,000 medical workers from other provinces to help in the fight against the Covid wave, fuelled by the Omicron variant.

Not just that, the testing and heavy treatments have been taking a toll on medical professionals as well who have been working nonstop without any breaks. The totalitarian government's strict measures are the harshest the country has seen so far since the pandemic erupted for the first time back in 2020.
