Scott Taylor column: Battling back from injury, the effects of Andy Last and increased passion

The Hull FC vice-captain offers insight into the Black and Whites' camp and the difference the interim head coach has made

It’s been a while since my last column, but I’ve been working my socks off to get myself back fit and I can tell you it won’t be long until I’m back out there.

It’s been hurting me every day not being involved and while I’m putting a specific date on my comeback, I’m confident I’m not far off being fully fit once more and for that I've got to thank conditioner Paul Hatton and physio Chris John.

In the meantime I’ve watched all the boys' games at home on my own and I don’t think my heart rate has ever been so high while sat on sofa. It’s been a work out just watching it at times, but I was delighted to see us get the two results last week.

Everyone at the club has been working so hard to turn the season around and it seems that hard work is paying off now.

There’s battered and bruised bodies all over the place, not just in the FC camp but across the league, but the effort is beginning to pay dividends it seems and the impact Andy Last has made is starting to tell on the field.

The last few months have probably been one of the toughest periods in the club’s history, so it was probably the hardest time to take over as head coach, but Last has handled it brilliantly, he and his staff deserve plenty of credit.

He’s been waiting for the job for a long time and he knows what sort of coach he wants to be and that’s one that is different to what we’ve had in the past. He’s making everyone accountable for their actions on and off the field and he’s having a huge effect. I speak on every player’s behalf when I say we’re very happy and improvements are coming slowly but surely.

Things were never going to change overnight and the restrictions have been tough for us all to deal with, regarding how long you can spend with each other, what we can do in training and recovery.
