Shocking dashcam footage has captured the moment a confused driver travels the wrong way down one of Hull city centre’s busiest roads.

The recording, which was recently uploaded to Facebook, shows a car defying the rules of the highway by heading southbound down Ferensway on the wrong side of the road.

The driver can be seen creeping through some traffic lights outside St Stephen’s Shopping Centre before narrowly avoiding a bus which crosses into the interchange from Brook Street.

Another bus is then forced to slam on the brakes after pulling out of Margaret Moxon Way by Hull Paragon only to come face to face with the car.

After a moment of hesitation between the two vehicles, the car eventually mounts the kerb but instead of going back onto the correct carriageway, it comes to a stop in front of a line of traffic waiting patiently at the traffic lights.

With the driver clearly muddled, cars then make their way around the lost vehicle until a man in a hi-vis jacket comes to assist the motorist.

Although the footage was captured two years ago and uploaded to YouTube, it has recently resurfaced in Hull after being shared on the Facebook page 'Driving in Hull: Improving our standards together.'

The page is run by Dean – a motorist who uploads and collates footage of driver mishaps in around the city.

Speaking about the “bizarre” Ferensway incident, he said: “I’ve never seen that before.

“It’s pretty rare but it does prove it can happen. It’s strange to see something like that along a main route we all know so well.”

Since the post on March 3, many people have already commented to express their dismay at the driving shown in the clip.

One woman said: “Knowing that road well, I really do not understand how the hell he’s done that.

“The signs are clear, the paint work is too. Shouldn’t have a licence. I hope someone called the police at the time.”

Another said she was “completely gobsmacked by the footage,” whereas another man questioned how the driver was able to obtain a licence.
