A Hull bouncer who was glassed at a Hessle pub could be scarred for life after the brutal beer bottle attack, saying that seeing the gruesome injury "broke his daughter's little heart".

Still bearing the dent in his head two months on, Ryan Whitehouse, 32, from east Hull, described how he had been working at The Admiral pub in Hessle on Saturday, June 19, when he saw a man and a woman, who he said were very intoxicated, in the beer garden.

The woman was swaying and spilling her drink, he said, and when he approached her and asked her to leave, she started acting aggressively towards him.

As he told her to leave the premises, pointing out that she was spilling her beer, he said she chimed back by saying: "And f****** what?"

"She then poured the drink all over my head," Ryan said.

"So I took a couple of steps back, and then she launched the bottle at my head."

He said he was left seriously shaken by the incident, adding that it could have gone "so much worse".

"It could have hit my eye and I could have died," he said.

"It dawned on me that I could not have gone back to my family that night.

"I have been in the industry a long time, so it is not the worst that has happened. But it affected my daughter really badly, and that has affected me.

"It broke her little heart and she was crying badly when I returned home that night and asking me 'Daddy are you okay?'

"She does not know what happened but she knows that daddy had a 'poorly on his head', and she is always asking me if my head feels better. She was devastated by it."

Right the attack, Ryan said he went back into the pub to get back-up because he was alone in the beer garden.

"The woman was with a man who was quite large and they were both under the influence, so it was my final decision that they had to leave and she was not happy at that," he said.

"She also made a false accusation against me, saying that I squared up to the man and that I should not be allowed to be a doorman. But the CID and Humberside Police have seen the CCTV footage which proves that I did not.

"If he was not there, I would have been able to restrain her after she attacked me, but I was alone and he would have been able to give me a beating wouldn't he?"

But as Ryan went to get back-up, the woman and her friends fled in a white hatchback that was parked in Hessle Square.

Police have recently published a CCTV image of a woman they want to speak to about the incident.

Ryan, meanwhile, as a veteran and former combat medic in the army for nine years, was able to treat his own wound and continue working for the night.
