Southampton are keen to sign Archie Meekison after watching the Dundee United midfielder score during a scouting mission last week, as reported by The Sun (16 May, page 59).

There’s something in the water at Tannadice.

In late 2020, reports broke suggesting Burnley wanted to raid Dundee United for Logan Chalmers and Lewis Neilson.

Aston Villa, meanwhile, are confirmed admirers of Tangerines teen Kerr Smith.

So it should be no surprise, really, that Meekison has admirers from south of the border too.

Another highly rated Dundee United youngster, the Edinburgh-born starlet already has scouts flocking to the Lowlands.

The Sun reports talent-spotters working on behalf of Southampton were in attendance as Meekison marked his full Scottish Premiership debut with a goal in the recent 2-2 draw with Motherwell.

A confident and classy central midfielder, Meekison certainly fits the Saints’ brief.

He’s not only young, affordable and brimming with resale value, he also possesses the requisite technical ability to thrive in a Ralph Hasenhuttl team.

The Sun adds Southampton, suitably impressed by what they saw from the former Cove Rangers loanee, hope to get the deal done when the summer transfer window opens.
