‘He will leave’: Club chief says reported Wolves target will be released in June

Wolverhampton Wanderers target Aleksander Buksa has rejected a new contract at Wisla Krakow and will leave on a free transfer in June, Tomasz Jazdzynski, chairman of the club’s supervisory board, told Interia.

The Ekstraklasa outfit always feared that this day was coming.

Buksa, Wisla’s much-admired centre-forward, had verbally agreed to commit his future to the club last summer.

But, after failing to put pen to paper on a new deal, concerns were growing that the teenage striker would be lured away by the chance to make his name in one of Europe’s major leagues.

According to Sportowe Fakty, Wolves are keen on a £4 million-rated striker who has been labelled the ‘new Robert Lewandowski’ in his native Poland.

Buksa and his father held talks with the Wisla board last Friday but, after refusing to sign a long-term contract extension, the 6ft 2ins centre-forward now looks destined to depart in just four months.

And Wisla won’t even have a cash windfall to offset the departure of one of Poland’s brightest talents.

“He will fulfill the contract until June and then he will leave,” said Jazdzynski.

“Aleksander Buksa was summoned by the management board last Friday to fulfil the promise he made with his father and sign the contract in the version in which it was agreed last August.

“And he refused to sign. Therefore, no further talks with Aleksander Buksa will be conducted. Case is closed. He will complete his contract by June and then leave.”

It remains to be seen whether new Brexit rules will block Buksa’s move to Molineux, with Premier League clubs now restricted when it comes to signing EU-based players under the age of 21.

If permitted, Wolves could enlist the help of Jorge Mendes once again. The Portuguese super-agent has a close relationship with Buksa’s representative, the influential Pini Zahavi (SF).
