Sources: Swansea City agree to sign Paterson after Bristol City exit
Swansea City have agreed a deal to sign ex-Bristol City winger Jamie Paterson on a free transfer, Football Insider understands.
Paterson is a free agent after his City contract expired in June and was not renewed.
A Swansea source has told Football Insider that the terms of the deal have been agreed and all parties are confident it will be completed soon.
The 29-year-old has spent time on trial with Middlesbrough this summer, as confirmed by manager Neil Warnock.
Paterson will become the Swans’ fourth permanent signing of the summer.
They have added centre-forwards Joel Piroe and Kyle Joseph as well as midfielder Liam Walsh after narrowly missing out on promotion last term.
A versatile forward, Paterson is capable of playing on either flank or in a withdrawn centre-forward role.
His 156 appearances during his time at Ashton Gate yielded 26 goals and 21 assists.
Four of those strikes came in 22 appearances in 2020-21, but the attacker missed the last portion of the campaign with a groin injury.
After three seasons with Walsall in the infancy of his career, Paterson joined Nottingham Forest in 2013.
There he scored 15 times in 69 appearances before signing for Bristol City for an undisclosed fee in August 2016.
Swansea are under new management in the form of ex-MK Dons boss Russell Martin who was appointed earlier this week.
Football Insider first broke news on 27th July that Martin had been approached regarding the role recently vacated by Steve Cooper.
