Sources: Swansea City to appoint Eustace as new manager today after terms agreed
Swansea City are set to appoint QPR coach John Eustace as their new manager today, Football Insider has learned.
The Championship club have moved for the Rangers number two, 41, following the exit of Steve Cooper.
A Swansea source has told Football Insider that the club have reached an agreement with Eustace and the plan is for him to be named their new manager today.
The Welsh side came close to appointing Eustace in 2019 when he was on their shortlist.
Lincoln City’s Michael Appleton had been the initial first choice for the Swans this time around.
But he is currently off work at the League One club after announcing earlier this month he has testicular cancer.
The Swansea gig will be Eustace’s first permanent position as a manager since a two-year stint at non-league Kidderminster Harriers between 2016 and 2018.
He was later made caretaker manager at QPR towards the end of the 2018-19 campaign following Steve McLaren’s dismissal.
One of his seven games at the helm was a 4-0 win over Swansea before he returned to his coaching role following Mark Warburton’s appointment.
The man he will replace, Cooper, left Swansea after two seasons at the helm after reportedly becoming unsettled in the role.
He led the Swans to two consecutive Championship play-off finishes in 2019-20 and 2020-21.
As revealed by Football Insider on 1st June, he had two interviews to become the new Crystal Palace manager.
But that role was ultimately handed to Patrick Viera and the 41-year-old is currently without a club after quitting yesterday (21st July).
