Sources: West Brom in advanced talks to sign Barnsley star Woodrow

West Brom are in advanced talks to sign Barnsley forward Cauley Woodrow in the January transfer window, Football Insider understands.

The two Championship clubs are trying to thrash out a deal for Woodrow and that is why he was left out of the Barnsley squad to face West Brom last Friday (17 December).

A West Brom source has told Football Insider that boss Valerien Ismael is a big fan of Woodrow having worked with him during his time in charge of Barnsley.

He sees him as an ideal addition to his side in January to bolster the Baggies’ promotion bid.

Woodrow has just over 18 months left on his current deal and Barnsley are ready to cash in on their captain to allow them to strengthen the squad elsewhere next month.

Woodrow, 27, has scored four goals in 22 Championship outings so far this season.

The striker’s record under Ismael looks more impressive, as he bagged 12 goals in 42 appearances while the Baggies boss was at Barnsley.

West Brom’s promotion bid has faltered due to a lack of goals in recent weeks.

The Baggies’ clash with Barnsley was yet another example of this as the sides played out a 0-0 draw.

Summer signing Jordan Hugill, 29, has not stepped up to the plate, only finding the net once in 973 minutes of league football.

Albion have only scored just four times in their last nine games and they have fallen to fourth in the table following Blackburn’s incredible run of form.

They do remain firmly in the hunt for an automatic promotion spot as they sit just four points behind league leaders Fulham.

Woodrow had played almost every minute of Barnsley’s Championship season before he missed last Friday’s game.

He has scored 53 goals in 151 total outings for The Tykes.

In other news, Dr Dan has issued an £18m West Brom claim after official news this week.
