Sources: Bournemouth set sights on signing Southampton star Obafemi after move collapses

Bournemouth have set their sights on signing Southampton striker Michel Obafemi, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The Championship outfit are pursuing the forward after a potential move to Blackburn Rovers collapsed.

A Bournemouth source has told Football Insider that the club are keen to land Obafemi, 21, on a permanent deal.

Scott Parker’s new side are in the market for a new striker after selling Sam Surridge to Stoke City.

On 11th August, this site revealed Obafemi had turned down a move to Ewood Park.

An industry source told Football Insider the forward rejected the chance to swap clubs with new Saints signing Adam Armstrong.

Armstrong left Rovers after months of speculation and replaces Danny Ings after he moved to Aston Villa.

Obafemi is a Southampton academy graduate and is into the final year of the contract he signed in 2019.

He has made 38 total appearances for the club and has scored five goals.

2019-20 was his most prolific season as he scored three goals in 21 outings.

Bournemouth’s Championship season got underway with a 2-2 draw against West Brom last Friday.

Dominic Solanke led the line for the Cherries but was unable to cause any major problems for David Button in the Albion net.

Obafemi’s potential transfer would be yet another departure from Southampton late on in this summer window.

On 12th August, this site revealed Jannick Vestergaard is also set to leave St Mary’s and sign for Leicester.

This leaves the Saints without two players who were vital last season with the new Premier League campaign just days away.
