Exclusive: Leeds in hot pursuit of Championship centre-forward, he has handed in transfer request

EXCLUSIVE By Pete O’Rourke
Leeds United are eyeing a new move for Preston North End striker Jordan Hugill in this month’s transfer window, Football Insider sources understand.
Leeds were one of a number of clubs who tried to sign Hugill last summer, but Preston managed to keep hold of their prize asset even after he handed in a transfer request at Deepdale.
The Whites have continued to keep tabs on Hugill’s situation at Preston and a well placed source has told Football Insider that the Elland Road outfit, led by director of football Victor Orta, are ready to make a new attempt this month to try and lure the forward away from Preston.
Hugill, who finished last season as Preston’s top scorer with 13 goals, has netted 10 goals in 26 appearances in all competitions so far this season to enhance his reputation as one of the best strikers in the Championship.
Leeds boss Thomas Christiansen is looking to strengthen his attacking options in this month’s transfer window and he sees Hugill as someone who could prove the difference in their battle to win promotion to the Premier League.
Leeds have failed to score in their last two Championship games and a new striker is on their list of target having been been forced to use winger Kemar Roofe in a striking role for a large majority of the campaign.
Preston are determined to keep hold of their star striker, but with the player in the final 18 months of his contract Leeds are ready to test Preston’s resolve to keep hold of Hugill before the close of the transfer window.
