FA chairman Greg Clarke has reportedly told the Premier League that he does not believe that the domestic football season will be completed due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Clarke was present at the emergency Premier League meeting in London on Thursday, with the Premier League, EFL, FA Women's Super League and Women's Championship all suspended until April 3 following the briefing.
And according to the Times, Clarke said he did not think it was "feasible" that the season would be completed, with government guidance suggesting that the coronavirus will not peak in the UK until around mid-June.
This move has apparently sparked fears of huge financial repercussions with a season going unfinished, with potential losses for the Premier League potentially running up to £750million.
That would be because of breach of broadcasting contracts, with TV companies across the world seeking recompense after being unable to show matches.
The Premier League last night announced that it intended to continue with games this weekend as normal, but shortly following this, Arsenal announced that head-coach Mikel Arteta had contracted the virus.
Now games are suspended for three weeks, with the potential to extend the suspension should new cases arise.
Clubs reportedly backed a temporary suspension, which will allow the league and FA more time to decide on potential solutions to problems such as the final league table should the season be rendered void.
While Liverpool are far and away leaders at the top of the league, the situation becomes messy when taking into account relegation and European places.
