Frank Lampard has become the heavy favourite to be made the next Crystal Palace manager amid ongoing uncertainty over whether Roy Hodgson will be offered a new deal at Selhurst Park.
Rumours have seen a number of managers linked with Palace in recent months as Hodgson's contract runs down in South London.
While Hodgson continues to play questions about his future with a straight bat, his press conference ahead of Palace's game against Leicester hinted that a decision may have been made.
In the past, he has maintained that talks about his future had not taken place, that he was happy to "continue kicking this one down the road until such time that a decision maybe necessary."
However, on Thursday when asked about his future, he simply stated: "I'll keep that specific news until a later date."
When asked whether it would be his last trip to face Leicester, he answered: "Well you never know, we'll wait and see. I'm afraid I'm not really prepared at the moment to reveal my inner most thoughts on the subject, but I will do one day."
Of course, he may well have agreed a new deal at Selhurst Park, postponing his exit for another year until the club are better-placed to overhaul an ageing squad in need of rejuvenation.
But rumours continue to mount on possible successors, and the bookies have a new clear favourite to take over in Frank Lampard.
The former Chelsea boss has moved in from 6/4 to 4/11 with Betfair to become the next Crystal Palace manager, leading the way ahead of Sean Dyche, Eddie Howe and Patrick Vieira who are also in the running.
Away from the betting shops, candidates such as former Palace player and current Barnsley boss Valerien Ismael and Roma manager Paulo Fonseca have also been linked, with Fonseca out of contract at the end of the season and his side some way off the Champions League places in Serie A.
With Palace coming to a crossroad in terms of the direction of the club, it would seem prudent that they conduct talks with a number of individuals to gauge their interest in becoming Crystal Palace boss.
Given the current financial position of clubs, it will be difficult for the club to replace the number of players who are currently out of contract at the end of the season, and Hodgson also confirmed that sporting director Doug Freedman had been in contact with the players to discuss their futures at the club.
How the club will replenish the squad will likely come down to who does have other offers on the table. The likes of Christian Benteke and Patrick van Aanholt will no doubt be catching the attention of clubs across Europe who are looking to capitalise on the free transfers market.
Palace will be keeping a keen eye on that area themselves, and given the club's recent push to develop their academy, the next manager will likely be someone the club have identified as someone who can harness the talents of their top young players.

It would make sense for Lampard to be considered for the role, given his availability after leaving Chelsea and the strong record he has in placing his faith in youth, from Derby to his first season at Stamford Bridge with Mason Mount and Fikayo Tomori both featuring heavily.
Of course, there have been criticisms of Lampard, with Chelsea struggling to gel following the sudden influx of a number of new players at Chelsea when he was able to make transfers - something that may be a reality at Palace given the current contract situation in the first team.
Lampard is the current favourite to replace Hodgson should the manager leave. Whether it would be a move that makes sense for the club - and for the 42-year-old - remains to be seen.
