Dejan Lovren was the Liverpool villain once again.

MATCH OF THE DAY 2 pundits Alan Shearer and Danny Murphy have blasted Dejan Lovren for his part in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Everton.

Man of the moment Mohamed Salah curled home the opening goal of the game with his 15th strike of the season.

Sadio Mane then missed a glorious chance to double the hosts’ lead when through on goal as he dragged his shot wide.

And Dejan Lovren, who has often come under criticism for a number of below-par performances this season, pushed Dominic Calvert-Lewin over in the box for a 77th-minute penalty.

Wayne Rooney duly stepped up to blast the spot kick down the middle and snatch a share of the spoils for Sam Allardyce’s side.

Jurgen Klopp has got to look at his selection because he keeps picking and choosing him and he keeps letting the team down.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was furious with referee Craig Pawson after the game for the decision to award the penalty.

But Murphy thinks the Reds manager should look at himself for continually picking Lovren in his defence.

“It was a blatant penalty, I have to say,” Murphy said.

“Jurgen Klopp has got to look at his selection because he keeps picking and choosing him and he keeps letting the team down.

“I don’t know the fella and I’m sure he’s trying his best but he is just not good enough.”

And fellow pundit Shearer also thought it was a nailed on penalty.

“This is a penalty to me. I think it’s terrible defending from Liverpool and Lovren,” Shearer said.

“He turns his back on Calvert-Lewin and he does everything right as a centre-forward should do.

Burley: Lovren and Moreno should never play for Liverpool again

“He gets his body across the defender and it’s a shove and it’s a push and it’s a penalty.

“What the hell Lovren is doing I really couldn’t tell you.

“He is going away from goal. There is no danger whatsoever.

“Absolutely a push is more than enough for him to fall over.”
