ARSENAL had arguably the busiest transfer window in the Premier League this summer - but what did their net spend end up on?

Kieran Tierney confirmed as new Arsenal signing

Arsenal’s window was akin to a 3000m steeplechase - after many obstacles along the way, it was hell-for-leather down the home straight.

The Gunners’ first signing was young striker Gabriel Martinelli from Brazilian side Ituano, but that did not do much to excite fans.

Saint-Etienne defender William Saliba completed his move not too long afterward as Arsenal fended off interest from Tottenham.

The 19-year-old was loaned back to his boyhood club for an extra season, however.

In the way of attacking reinforcements, Arsenal had a splendid week in acquiring the services of Real Madrid midfielder Dani Ceballos on a season-long loan.

The Emirates board then broke the bank on a £72m deal for Nicolas Pepe, with Arsenal stumping up an initial £20m with the difference being paid in instalments over the next five years.

A summer-long pursuit of Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney finally ended on deadline day as the Scotland international joined for £25m - but that wasn’t the end of it.

In a shock revelation, David Luiz wanted to move from Chelsea to Arsenal and got his deal over the line just in time for £8m.

The late development was welcomed by Unai Emery, who lost club captain Laurent Koscielny to Bordeaux for £4.6m.

Arsenal also allowed Nigerian winger Alex Iwobi to leave for Everton after the Merseyside club gave up on signing Wilfried Zaha and lodged a £27m bid, which could rise to £35m with add-ons.

The other players sold permanently for a fee are Krystian Bielik (£9.5m to Derby County), David Ospina (£4.5m to Napoli) and Takuma Asano £900k to Partizan Belgrade).

Given that reports at the start of the summer stated Arsenal had a limited transfer budget of £45m, they have been extremely busy.
