Farage believes Britain's EU exit was essential to Trump's election win

NIGEL Farage has claimed Donald Trump’s historic election win would not have happened without the momentum of Brexit.

Farage: Brexit was KEY to Donald Trump’s election win

The former Ukip leader suggested Britain’s vote to leave the EU was a decisive factor in helping Trump take the White House ahead of the President-elect’s inauguration tomorrow.

In a film for BBC’s Newsnight programme, Farage said: “If I speak to Trump’s team, close advisers and even to President Elect Trump himself, none of them think Trump would have won unless Brexit had happened.”

After filmmaker Michael Cockerell asked the MEP if he had personally helped Trump to win the presidency, he replied: “It wasn’t the direct object at the time of fighting for all those years for a referendum, but as a by-product it was part of it.”

Farage will be one of a small number of Britons present when Donald Trump becomes the 45th US President at 5.00pm GMT today.

On Thursday, he tweeted a picture from Washington alongside Brexit bankroller Arron Banks and Lord Ashcroft, who he dubs ‘the Brexit Bad Boys’.

The trio have rented out the top floor of the exclusive five-star Hay Adams hotel just down the road from the White House for a huge party on Saturday night.

There are even hopes that Trump will attend the bash at the Washington hotel, along with Banks’s close friend Phil Bryant, the Governor of Mississippi.
