New BMX X7 2019 REVEALED - Price, specs, performance and release date confirmed

BMW has pulled the wraps off the first ever X7 and it’s new flagship X-line SUV.

The large seven-seater will be looking to take on cars such as the Range Rover when it goes on sale in 2019 and boasts the best space and quality in the German carmaker’s SUV lineup.

It measures 5,151mm long, 2,000mm wide and 1,805mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,105mm which should allow a large interior cabin and powerful stance on the road.

The most striking part of the new design is the tall new double-kidney grille at the front which dominates the face of the car.

At the front, there are also new Adaptive LED headlights, front fog lights, and extra-large air intakes. From the side, it is boxy at tall and boxy which should keep consistently good headroom from the front to the rear.

The car’s rears broken up by a horizontal chrome strip and there is a metallic skid plate between the twin exhaust pipes and the vehicle sis on 21-inch light-alloy wheels.

There is a standard three-part panoramic glass roof which has glass elements at the front, central and rear.

Inside the car, the design is refined and well finished with premium materials. The dashboard consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrumentation panel and a large infotainment screen in the centre.

There is also a myriad of controls fitted in the centre console including the iDrive Controller, newly designed gear selector and drive control buttons, which can be finished in a number of different materials.

The Panorama glass roof ‘Sky Lounge’, meanwhile, features LED lighting spread evenly across the glass surfaces to illuminate more than 15,000 graphic patterns and generate a display reminiscent of a starlit sky.

BMW has fitted a four-zone automatic climate control as standard and additional air vents for the third row of seats.

There is also an interior lighting system which has six different colour options which can also change colour when the door is open or when a call is incoming.

As standard, there are three rows of seats allowing space for seven adults with two full-size seats on the third row.

Boot capacity is 326 litres and increases to a maximum 2,120 litres when the backrests of the seats in the second and third rows are folded down.

Utilising the car’s standard air suspension allows the car to be lowered (at the touch of a button in the boot, via the display key or rocker switch within the centre console) to make loading easier.

The tailgate can also be split in two allowing loading to be easier or to have access to the car without opening the entire boot.

A ten-speaker hi-fi comes as standard, while the optional Harman Kardon surround sound system features 16 speakers.

The optional Rear-Seat Entertainment Professional system comprises a pair of 10.2-inch full-HD touchscreen displays, Blu-ray-compatible DVD player, two USB ports, HDMI socket and two headphone jacks.

The third row of seats has access to two further USB ports.

There is also a Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility and BMW Intelligent Personal Assistant which can be controlled with voice commands such as “Hey BMW, I feel tired” triggers a programme that adjusts the lighting mood, music and temperature to make the driver feel more awake.

Powering the car is a choice of a six-cylinder in-line petrol unit for the BMW X7 xDrive40i and a pair of six-cylinder in-line diesels to power the BMW X7 xDrive30d and BMW X7 M50d M Performance models.

Each unit is turbocharged and are paired with an eight-speed Steptronic transmission and comes with the xDrive all-wheel drive.

The most powerful powertrain is the diesel BMW X7 M50d which produces 400 hp and 760 NM allowing it to sprint from 0-62mph in 5.4 seconds and on to an electronically limited top speed of 155mph.

A number of driver assistance systems come as standard including Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking, optional Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Steering and Lane Control Assistant and Lane Keeping Assistant.

Another system is Crossing Traffic Warning, Rear Collision warning, Priority warning, Wrong-way warning and Lane Change Warning.

There is also Parking Assistant Plus with Reversing Assistant which comes with a camera which offers a 360 view of the car.

In addition to this, there is also an off-road package which offers multiple driving modes for different driving scenarios such as xSnow, xSand, xGravel, and xRocks.

The BMW X7 will go on sale from April 2019, with OTR prices starting from £72,155.
