As the highly transmissible Delta variant spreads across American stories, the document from US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has revealed that COVID-19 spreads as easily as chicken pox.

Furthermore, the CDC document, which is a presentation, highlights unpublished data showing that fully-vaccinated individuals may be as spreading the Delta variant at the same rate as unvaccinated.

As reported, CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky has confirmed to The Washington Post that the document is authentic. She told CNN, “I think people need to understand that we're not crying wolf here. This is serious. It's one of the most transmissible viruses we know about. Measles, chickenpox, this -- they're all up there.”

The US CDC will be publishing data that will support the controversial move in the US to update the COVID-19 guidelines for full-vaccinated people, which includes wearing face masks, even indoors if in a place where there are chances of contracting the COVID-19 virus like schools and workplaces.

She stressed that extreme measures were needed to get the virus under control.

The infectious Delta variant

While the original COVID-19 variant would spread as much as a common cold, the Delta variant is nearing the contagiousness of chickenpox.

The CDC presentation says the Delta variant is about as transmissible as the highly contagious disease of chickenpox. It suggests that infected person spreads the virus to eight or nine others people on an average.

Another startling piece of information is that vaccinated people may carry as much load as unvaccinated people. This means that full-vaccinated people may very well be spreading the virus as much as unvaccinated people and, hence, are as likely to be spreaders.

Vaccinated people are safer

As per the document, “Vaccines prevent more than 90% of severe disease, but may be less effective at preventing infection or transmission. Therefore, more breakthrough and more community spread despite vaccination.”

As per the document, vaccination results in a tenfold decrease in the odds of a person getting severe infection or dying. Vaccination also reduces the risk of infection threefold, it suggests.
