Mel Morris has made no secret of the fact that he has been on the lookout for new investment in Derby County for some time now.

The Rams owner and chairman has been exploring his options for the past year or so, and is believed to have attracted interest from Europe, the United States, Canada and the Far East at various points along the way.

We reported in March that there was understood to be three separate parties interested in providing either part or full investment in the club.

Nothing came of that at the time but Morris has remained open to offers.

Indeed, reports on Saturday night suggested an American consortium had seen a £50 million offer rejected, with Morris said to be holding out for an extra £10m according to The Sun.

They also claim the group even flew into the UK to finalise a deal.

Last week the club announced that John Kirkland and David Williams have stepped down from the board of directors - partly to pave the way for potential new investors.
