Hundreds of people have been sending messages of support and gifts to a Derbyshire police dog which was allegedly stabbed three times.

Officers have been thanking well-wishers for their kind words and presents which have been presented to PD Axle following an incident in High Street, Riddings, at around 6.50pm on Wednesday.

Police said PD Axle was left badly injured after being "stabbed" but that he is recovering well.

One tweet from Derbyshire police read: "Following the incident in Riddings on Wednesday, PD Axle is now making a good recovery from his injuries.

"Thank you for the well-wishes to him and his two-legged colleagues, who were involved and affected by the serious incident.

"PD Axle’s handler Dean wishes to thank you all for your support and concerns. To anyone that has contacted Dean he apologises for not replying and hopes to be able to update you more soon.

"We have been extremely overwhelmed by the offer of treats and toys for PD Axle and all of our police dogs.

"We would ask you please use your energy to support Finn for Change, or your local dogs charity."
