France penalty: Should this handball have been given in World Cup final vs Croatia?

FRANCE were given a controversial penalty in today's World Cup final.

Les Bleus are currently going head-to-head with Croatia in the eagerly-awaited conclusion to what has been a compelling tournament in Russia.

Juventus striker Mario Mandzukic first headed into his own net to give them the lead in the 18th minute, before Inter Milan winger Ivan Perisic brought the Vatreni level 10 minutes later.

That was before a contentious penalty call restored France’s lead at the Luzhniki Stadium.

Perisic suddenly went from zero to hero for Croatia, appearing to handle the ball inside the box.

Referee Nestor Pitana did not initially point to the spot, yet after consulting the VAR system in place he seemingly changed his mind.

But was he correct in doing so?

The decision has divided opinion among football fans, with some claiming it was a fair call and others insisting Croatia have been hard done by.
