ARSENAL midfielder Gedion Zelalem is close to joining Borussia Dortmund, according to reports.

The midfielder has struggled to break into Arsene Wenger's first team this season.

He's only had limited action in the EFL Cup as well as playing for the reserves in Premier League 2.

And now it looks like he's off to Germany.

ESPN report the 19-year-old is close to signing for Dortmund.

They say the German side are planning on snatching the United States Under-23 international on a cut-price deal as he's out of contract in the summer.

Zelalem is a Germany native and was born in Berlin, although he became a US citizen two years ago after his family moved there.

ESPN add he's happy to return to Germany, and is especially keen to play for Thomas Tuchel as his dad is a Dortmund fan.

Arsenal have an abundance of players in central midfield, which became increasingly clear earlier in the season when they let Jack Wilshere leave for Bournemouth for the whole season.
