A mild winter has provided perfect conditions inside our homes for packs of these pests to thrive in.
And with pest control firms reporting record levels of calls it appears the UK is on course for a flea epidemic as summer nears.
Rentokil has revealed they have already had an 87% surge in calls between February and March.
Year on year, there has also been a 23% increase in people calling the company after finding the creepy craws infestng their bedding, carpets and furniture.
David Cross, head of the Technical Training Academy at Rentokil, told The Sun Online that finding fleas on your body or your pet is the tip of the iceberg.
He said: “Fleas found on the host typically only represent just five per cent of the total flea population nearby.“The other 95 per cent will be in bedding, carpets and furniture.”
The flea epidemic has been caused by a much milder winter this year, which allowed the pesky little hoppers more time to lay eggs and for them to hatch.
Natalie Bungy, a field officer from the British Pest Control Association said the best way to avoid a plague of insects infesting your home is to look after your pets and keep on top of your housework.

She said: “If increases in fleas do become apparent then simply ensuring your pets are receiving the proper flea treatments from your vet and regular vacuuming is done, no noticeable increase should be apparent in your home.
"The larvae of the cat flea (most common one, also found on dogs) feeds on dust, debris, flakes of skin and fur and dead insects so again, good housekeeping is key to prevent issues.”

Recently Dr Tim Nuttall, veterinary dermatologist at the University of Liverpool, recently said the UK flea population has been rising for years but it has leapt dramatically since 2013.
He said that is down almost entirely to the cat flea which, despite its name, will live off dogs, ferrets and humans too.
Doctors say flea bites usually appear as red spots with reddened haloes, are very itchy, and are commonly found on the feet and legs.
They said bites should be washed with soap and water and then an antiseptic cream should be applied.

If the bite is painful or swollen, people are told to take a painkiller such as paracetamol or ibuprofen and use an antihistamine cream such as Anthisan.
The RSPCA says that a flea can live from between 14 days up to one year, with the female laying up to 50 eggs a day, although they can survive without a host for many months.
The British Pest Control Association recommends regularly treating pets with flea treatment and removing infested bedding and regularly treating walls and floors to prevent the pests returning.
