A surge in positive coronavirus cases has been linked to Tartan Army supporters coming back to Scotland after the England clash in London last weekend.

Thousands of fans made the journey across the border to watch the Wembley clash, with packed trains and coaches heading south- despite warnings that nobody without a ticket should make the trip.

It is estimated some 20,000 Scots went to England, with a huge boozy party in Leicester Square in the run up to the 0-0 draw.

But after the close contact of supporters, Scottish Government chiefs have said 'we are now seeing positive cases' from the coaches to and from the UK capital.

NHS Ayrshire and Arran have written to people onboard the coaches urging them to get tested.

A Scottish Government spokeswoman also urged testing.

She said: “We had previously advised that fans without tickets should not travel to London.

"We are now seeing positive cases in people who were on coach trips to and from London last weekend and we’d recommend everyone who was there take up the offer of Covid testing.
