Marks and Spencer have revealed plans to close their store on Paisley High Street to make way for a new food hall in a nearby retail park.

The plans were confirmed today as staff were informed the high street site would be closing down, with employees being relocated to a newly opened food hall within Wallneuk Retail Park.

The retail giant confirmed the new shopping unit would be opening within the Renfrew Road retail park, and would be 30 per cent bigger than the current site in the town centre.

A spokeswoman from M&S confirmed all staff would be given the option to relocate to the new premises, but would work with staff to find a solution if this was not suitable.

Staff working in the store say clothing and retail staff were informed they would be transferred to nearby intu Braehead.

M&S also said they would provide updates to the community on when the new store would be opening, and that the current store would remain open until that time.

A spokeswoman added: "We are excited about the expansion which represents a significant investment in the local area of Paisley.

"This will provide customers with a main food hall which is 30 per cent larger than the one currently in the local area.

"We wanted to let out customers know as part of this investment means we will be closing out High Street store.

"This store will remain open until plans on the food hall are completed and we will keep the community updated on the plans for this."
