Manchester United are monitoring Gent's exciting young forward Jonathan David.

The 20-year-old Canadian international has scored 22 goals this season and attracted a £5million bid from Porto which was rejected out of hand.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, David moved to Belgium in 2018 from Ottawa Internationals and has impressed with his versatility playing attacking midfield, wide and at centre forward.

Quick and composed, hence his nickname 'Iceman', David scored a hat-trick last weekend against St Truiden, which took his recent spree to nine in six Belgian league games.

United scouts have taken notice in recent weeks and are expected to watch him in the Europa League tie against Roma on Thursday with Everton, Arsenal and Leicester City also among the clubs following him this season.

Voted Canada's player of the year, he has 11 goals in 12 internationals for his country and is valued at around £18million by his club.
