Sol Campbell has moved closer to a return to football management, after entering advanced talks with Southend United regarding the hotseat.
As recently reported by Sportsmail, Campbell had been interviewed by the League One club and was made a candidate to replace the departed Kevin Bond, who resigned in September.
Southend had initially earmarked legendary former striker Henrik Larsson as their next manager, but confirmed that talks with the Swede had broken down.

Campbell has been without a club since leaving Sky Bet League Two side Macclesfield Town by mutual consent in August.
Southend chairman Ron Martin recently spoke glowingly of Campbell, praising the work he conducted at Macclesfield.
'Sol is a passionate, eloquent individual,' Martin had told the Southend Echo.
'One can perhaps understand why Sol succeeded against the odds at Macclesfield.'
Southend currently find themselves in a position of needing to quickly turn their fortunes around, following a poor start to the season.
The Shrimpers are currently second from bottom of League One with just five points taken from 13 games played.
