  • It is understood that the Saints made an offer of around £8million for the striker

  • The Blues are reluctant to sell cheap while demand for homegrown stars is high

Birmingham City have rejected a fresh approach from Southampton for striker Che Adams.

The Premier League side were rebuffed in bids for the 22-year-old in January and have returned with an offer understood to be in the region of £8million.

Adams has a number of clubs showing interest after scoring 22 goals last season but Birmingham are reluctant to sell one of their best players cheaply with young homegrown strikers in high demand.

The Blues rebuffed the Saints during the January transfer window due to their inability to replace the striker because of an EFL transfer embargo.

The club also anticipated a points deduction which eventually came their way in March and they knew Adams' goals would be needed to ensure their Championship survival.

Sportsmail reported that the Saints are likely to face competition from Burnley, who also bid for the striker in January, as well as newly-promoted Norwich.

Ralph Hasenhuttl has his sights set on bolstering his front line, with Charlie Austin expected to depart the club in search of more regular football after three-and-a-half years at St Mary's.
