Manchester City are worrying about Benjamin Mendy’s latest injury as Pep Guardiola claimed he is not aware how long the defender will be out for.
Mendy missed last weekend’s victory over Fulham before Wednesday’s defeat by Lyon with a bruised metatarsal. Guardiola had initially revealed it was a knee issue.
The 24-year-old’s last outing was against Newcastle United and he had started the season well.

Guardiola said: ‘He has a problem in his bone. I don’t know it. It is the ankle or foot.’
The City boss insisted his players had no reason to apologise for the performance in midweek.
‘The players don’t have to apologise,’ he added. ‘Why should they? They ran, they fought, tried to make a comeback.
‘The competition punishes the mistakes. We made a lot of mistakes. But they don’t have to apologise.
‘We didn’t play badly. It wasn’t the best but it wasn’t bad. In the first half it was a little bit slow. It’s that competition.
‘It’s so demanding. It’s so hard in terms of the levels of the teams. Still we have to learn to try and play that games. I need to help the team better than I did in the past.’
Guardiola also praised Sergio Aguero, who agreed a new one-year extension that will keep him at the Etihad Stadium until 2021.
‘I didn’t convince him, he decided himself,’ he said. ‘There is a commitment to our club. Before it was easier to find players to stay their whole career in the same club.
‘They want to live new experiences, and it’s not bad if they want to discover new languages and learn other cultures.
‘It happened with Sergio: Argentina, then Madrid and then here. He’s an important player for the club. I don’t know what’s happening in three years but it’s nice to count on him.’
