'I won't blunder like Alisson': Jordan Pickford vows not to take risks like the Liverpool goalkeeper

  • Jordan Pickford claims he will not take risks with the ball like Alisson did
  • Pickford says more mistakes are likely to happen throughout season
  • But Pickford doesn't intend to make one as he won't let himself get comfortableĀ

Jordan PickfordĀ insists he will not be left red-faced this season as he has no intention of taking risks like Liverpool's Alisson Becker.

The Everton and England number No 1 believes there will be more mistakes over the course of the campaign as goalkeepers are now expected to play like sweepers and be competent with the ball at their feet.

Both Gareth Southgate and Everton head coach Marco Silva want Pickford to be the man to set the tone but while he is confident in his ability to play, he has vowed not to gamble in possession as Alisson did at Leicester last Saturday.

'It's a risk - if it comes off it looks good,' said Pickford. 'But if it doesn't... It's a style of play and I think that's the way Liverpool want to play as well.Ā

'Mistakes will happen and it's about not making the next one. I'm going to try not to put myself in that position to make those mistakes.

'It's the timing of the game, really. You don't want to get too comfortable if you're winning and start trying to be a No 10.Ā

'If it's on to do I'll do it and if it's not we'll manage the game. That's where I learn more. The more games you play the more game management you learn.'Ā
